Quad Comparator consists of four window comparators and a triangle oscillator. The window comparators allow users to set two voltage levels, one high and one low, and whenever the incoming signal is between these two levels the output will go high (LED is on, ~10V output), outside of those levels it will be low (LED is off, 0V). The four inputs of this module are normalled sequentially, so the four comparators can be used together, separately, or in any combination.

Laser engraved sturdy, sustainable bamboo or black PCB panel. Comes with ribbon power connector and mounting screws.

Width: 12HP

Max depth: 26mm

Power: 25mA @ +12V, 15mA @ -12V

In its default configuration the oscillator is normalled to comparator input 1, so the oscillator hits all 4 comparators making droney pulse combinations or gate sequences that can create some really interesting patterns. Connecting an external signal (VCO, LFO, etc…) to any of the inputs will break the connection to previous inputs.

The “dc bias” shifts the input, effectively weighting it in a higher or lower voltage range. When the module is used as a gate sequencer this can generate shuffle-like effects. With a DC voltage to input 1 the DC bias knob can be used to manually trigger gates.

This module originated as a way to add a sequencing portion to the STEM Modular Wave Station, but rather than create a traditional “start/stop” sequencer this is built on some fundamental STEM concepts. Comparing values is basic enough to connect with middle schoolers, yet offers a wide range of patching possibilities.

Pairs well with the STEM Modular Sum&Slew Mixer.
